Cookie Perfection

Cookie—one of the American English words with origins in Dutch. Cookie comes from the Dutch koekje, which means little cake.  (In British countries this little treat is usually called a biscuit. Utz to You

    It was sometime around 1921 and Bill and Salie Utz wanted to make a fresher potato chip. Almost a century later, having done that and more a long time ago, they have added some unexpected additions. Among some 19 new items are, on the sweet side,  old-fashioned, chewy Grandma Utz Cookies,  packed 2 to a bag for convenience, in chocolate chip, peanut butter and oatmeal raisin. On the savory side are the  new Utz Nutz line that feautures bags of Salted Peanuts, Hot Peanuts, and Cashews.

They have also added some spice with  Utz Mild and Medium Chunky Salsas and single serve Salsa dip cups. The single serve are a nice idea when a smaller portion will do.

Another  mainstay, pretzels, have not been neglected. Now there are new takes on the famous Utz  pretzels—portable 10 oz bags of Specials, Dark Specials, Sourdough Hards and Extra Thins, as well as 15-ounce family-sized bags of  Honey Wheat, Butter, and Pumpernickel Select pretzels.

Snack Bars, healthy or not so?

When you want a snack to take with you when you know you’re going to have a busy day, you want to put something in your purse or briefcase that isn’t going to get crushed and get crumbs everywhere. But you still want a little something that will placate the hunger or the urge to stuff something you’ll regret later in your mouth—like almost anything from a food cart inside or outside—and vending machines? Those wheat crackers only look healthy because they are lined between cookies and candy bars. (Why are the mints and chewing gum always on the bottom tier, anyway?)
There are a lot of choices for portable noshing out there. Some are tastier than others. Some are healthier than others. Do all the unhealthy snack bars all taste better than the good-for-you kinds? Or is it possible to find healthier snack bars that taste pretty much like they couldn’t be good for you. But they are.
We’ll be taking a look at several brands, including:
Nature Valley Granola Bars, Kashi bars, Kudos, SoyJoy, and others.
Until then, be careful what kind of pick-me-up you pack. A pick-me-up shouldn’t plump you up.

Kashi

If you haven't tried some of the of the foods offered by Kashi, make it a point to sample some of the healthly cookies, bars, crackers, cereals, frozen meals.....etc...they offer. Available in the supermarket, most Kashi products do not require a trip to the health food store, although you may find more variety there. Kashi offers selection of frozen entrees but their real talent lies in cereals, bars and cookies.

Taste is purely personal, of course, and while one person may find Kashi chocolate chip cookies an acceptable and even palatable alternative to say, Keebler chocolate chip cookies, another cookie muncher may find the Kashi kinds are not sweet enough. But perhaps you just need to wean off the other stuff and give naturally-better-for-you alternatives a few chances before you turn your back on healthier baked goods. And, you can't consume the whole box at one sitting, either. That can never be healthy.
