Have Your Cake

Amy’s Organic Cakes, in Orange or Chocolate. Either way, both are fabulous Vegan, non-dairy, 11 ounces of pure sweet delight. No trans fats, No preservatives-- These cakes taste homemade. The texture, taste and fragrance all add up to a heavenly dessert. There is no aftertaste and no regret. Try both with non dairy topping or fruit or maybe ice cream.

The Orange is delicate and moist, a perfect summertime, anytime treat. The chocolate may not taste like an ultra-rich decadent chocolate cake—the flavor is more subtle and at the same time very pleasing to the palate.

Amy's Orhanic cakes are available frozen and thaw in the refrigerator in about 2 hours. They can be served warmed but taste just wonderful nice and cool right from the fridge.

It is true, like it says on the box, no one will believe it’s not homemade!

Satisfying Soups

The weather is unpredictable, even squirrelly—every couple of days it seems to go through a mini-seasonal shift. But it still is almost officially winter and one food that seems to be a natural in the colder months is soup. California- based Amy’s offers a winter dense variety called Indian Dal—Curried Lentil. Lentil soup is always fitting during these colder months but this particular one, with organic mung dal (Dal= lentils, beans or peas), green lentils and desi chickpeas is especially satisfying. There are no trans fats, no added MSG, No Preservatives, No GMOs, No Bioengineered ingredients and is gluten free. The taste is just piquant enough to be interesting.

But to get back a little taste of warmer climes, try Amy’s Summer Corn & Vegetable. While a lighter meal than the lentil, it is still hearty enough to offer real nourishment and even comfort. Like the Curried Lentil, the Summer Corn & Vegetable has no ingredients you wouldn’t want. This soup contains organic corn, organic potatoes and other tempting vegetables.

To complete the meal add some nutritious breads and cheese or hummus and a beverage.

Super Special Soups

Isn’t there something so inviting and comforting about a steaming bowl of hearty soup now that the weather is turning cooler? If you plan on making the soup an important part of the meal you might want t choose a hearty and filling variety; just try to be sure it doesn’t seem heartier because it is thickened with an ingredient like corm starch.

Try some Autumnal varieties like Curried Lentil or Organic Pasta, Organic Thai Coconut Soup (doesn’t that sound wonderful?!) , Organic Tuscan Bean and Rice, or Three Bean Soup from Amy’s Kitchen. For lighter sodium there is Organic Butternut Squash, Organic Cream of Tomato, to name just a few. All are hearty and filling because they are filled with heart-felt and honestly healthy ingredients.

Add a few pieces of robust bread and maybe some cheese or hummus, and you have a well-rounded meal that is satisfying and good for you.

Once in Love with Amy…

...always in love with Amy's Kitchen, produced by Amy’s Kitchen, founded in 1987 by Rachel and Andy Berliner,--and yes, there really an Amy—their daughter, who was born around the same time as the company. Amy’s still retains the culture of a family business, even though it has grown over the years.

Amy’s Kitchen offers a wide selection of vegetarian meals and snacks. Focusing on pizza this time around, we tried several varieties: Margherita Pizza, Cheese & Pesto Pizza with Whole Wheat Crust, Spinach Pizza and regular Cheese Pizza.
(Some other varieties include Soy Cheeze Pizza, Rice Crust Spinach Pizza). Bought frozen at most grocery chains, they are best cooked in the oven for about 25 minutes.

Everyone loved them--the varieties, the freshness, the portion size, the ingredients. Some had thought that the pizzas would less caloric than they are. But, they were happy to just eat a little less and balance it out with a salad and/or soup.

These are not “diet foods.” They are foods for a healthy diet.
